Griess Family Farms

Meet Our Farmer

Griess Family Farms is a true example of a farm that has stood the test of time. Hidden behind a row of pine trees lies 2,500 acres of rolling hills of corn. But, the Griess family didn’t always grow crops explains, Ryan Griess, head of the operation. Griess’ grandfather purchased the land in the early fifties and, along with his father, Dean, they started off by raising hogs. Over time, the farm transitioned into a vineyard, producing grapes for some of the area’s leading wineries. When Ryan got more heavily involved in the operation, he found success in planting corn.

With different crops came different challenges, and despite the hard times, Ryan and Dean continue to plant, spray and harvest every acre themselves. The father and son pair work closely with a local co-op that purchases their crop for ethanol. In his spare time, Ryan enjoys hunting upland game birds with his two German shorthaired pointers and a horse named, Eight. Whether it’s grapes, hogs, or corn, the Griess family has always taken pride in the products they produce.
